Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram are likely to witness a sudden and significant change in weather on Tuesday with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a 'yellow alert' for the day. According to a PTI report, the IMD has sounded a yellow alert for New Delhi, Central Delhi, South Delhi, Southwest Delhi, West Delhi, Northwest Delhi, East Delhi and Southeast Delhi districts. Dust storms and thunderstorm accompanied by light rain is likely in the city today. Ghaziabad and Gurugram are also likely to witness partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers today.

As per the IMD forecast, the day in Delhi is expected to remain overcast, with the possibility of light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Weather activity is likely to intensify during the afternoon, evening, and night hours. The wind speed may reach between 40 and 50 kmph.

The weather office said thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are likely in the next few hours, with wind speeds expected to touch up to 60 kmph at times. A yellow alert signifies "be updated" and advises residents to remain aware of changing weather conditions. The department has warned of “thunderstorms with rain” throughout the day, indicating rainfall accompanied by strong winds and lightning activity.
The day temperature is likely to dip to about 34-36 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday. “However, as the impact of the western disturbance is likely to be over by Wednesday, the city may see a rise in mercury from Thursday onwards,” a Met official told TOI.

Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate further during the afternoon, with a likelihood of squally winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph along with lightning strikes. The Met department said there is a possibility of thundery developments on Wednesday too. The Meteorological Department has advised residents to remain cautious and vigilant during this period. Partly cloudy skies and the possibility of thunderstorms are expected to persist on May 13 as well. Rainfall in North India
Parts of North India are likely to receive light rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, at isolated places from Tuesday to Thursday, the IMD said. Moderate to light rains are expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, from May 12 (Tuesday) to May 14 (Thursday); in West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan on May 12 (Tuesday); and in East Uttar Pradesh on May 12 (Tuesday) and May 13 (Wednesday).(With PTI inputs)
