Solar Panel Price: The tension of the common man has increased in view of the increasing electricity bills. Because of which people are now increasingly turning towards solar energy. Till now it has been seen that solar panels are being used from rooftops of houses to factories. But before installing a solar system, a question comes to everyone’s mind that how many years does the solar panel last and does it have any expiry date? There is another question that comes to mind that how much space is required to install solar panels.
Solar panel does not shut down even after 25 years
For your information, let us tell you that solar panel is not like a common machine which suddenly stops working after a fixed date. Its lifespan gradually decreases and its ability to generate electricity diminishes with time. Well, if we take a good solar panel as an example, it can easily work for 25 to 30 years. In such a situation, there are many companies which give performance warranty of up to 25 years. But make it clear that this does not mean that the panel will stop working or get damaged after 25 years, rather its power generation capacity may reduce slightly.
For example, any new panel which initially works at 100% capacity can generate electricity at about 75 to 85% capacity after 25 years.
What is the expiry date of the panel?
Solar panel is not a food item which has a fixed expiry date. The life of any solar panel depends on technical factors. In which the quality of the panel, material used, weather and method of installation together decide its lifespan. Actually, every year the capacity of the panel decreases slightly which is called degradation rate. Whereas if you have good solar panels then this rate is around 0.5% per year. At the same time, if there is excessive heat, dust, rain or storm in your area, then its effect can also be seen on the lifespan of the panel. But with regular cleaning and proper maintenance, its life can be extended to a great extent.
How much space will the solar system take?
Talking about the place of installation of solar panel, a 3kW system would be best for a typical family which consumes around 300 units of electricity every month. For which the family needs about 300 square feet of space. Whereas for 1kW system, about 100 square feet area is required and for 5kW system, about 500 square feet area is required.
In such a situation, in homes where space is less, monocrystalline panels are considered a better option because they can generate more electricity in less space. If there is more space, polycrystalline panel can prove to be a cheap and good option.
How much does it cost to install a 3kW solar system?
If you have decided that you will install solar panels in your house, then it is important to know its cost so that you can make a budget. Let us tell you that the total cost of a 3kW on-grid rooftop solar system for an average house in India would be around Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2.2 lakh. This includes the cost of panel, inverter, wiring, mounting structure and installation. But one good thing is that under PM Suryaghar Yojana, a subsidy of up to Rs 78,000 can be available on this system. In such a situation, the initial expenditure is reduced and in the long run, there is huge saving in electricity bill.
