CM Vijay in action mode as soon as he assumes power: Order to close 717 liquor shops near places of worship and schools.

Tamil Nadu News: After assuming power in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister C.Joseph Vijay, taking a major administrative decision, has directed to close 717 liquor shops across the state. The government has clarified that all these shops were operating very close to sensitive areas like religious places, schools-colleges and bus stands. The Chief Minister has asked the officials to complete the action within the next two weeks.

According to government data, a total of 4,765 liquor shops of Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation i.e. TASMAC are operated in the state. Following the instructions of the Chief Minister, the administration launched a special checking campaign across the state, in which shops violating the rules were identified.

Investigation revealed that 276 shops were running near temples and other places of worship. While 186 shops were found near schools and colleges, 255 shops were found near bus stands. Taking all these together, a list of closure of 717 shops has been prepared.

The government says that this decision has been taken not just to enforce the rules but keeping in mind public order and safety. For a long time, local people were demanding removal of liquor shops from these sensitive areas. It is believed that this step will improve discipline in crowded areas and people’s complaints will reduce.
