malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday congratulated actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay on being elected Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Vijay’s new political party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has achieved major success in the recently held assembly elections, after which a major change has been seen in the politics of the state.

Anwar Ibrahim posted on social media platform He said that there have been strong social and cultural ties between the two regions for a long time.

In his message, he also mentioned the popular song “Oru Viral Puratchi” (One Finger Revolution) from Vijay’s film ‘Sarkar’, which he described as a symbol of the people’s movement against corruption through democratic means. He said that this movement is now moving towards making history.

Anwar Ibrahim wrote that the people of Tamil Nadu have chosen Vijay not just as an actor but as a responsible leader. He said that this change reflects public confidence and democratic strength.

He further said that the relationship between Malaysia and Tamil Nadu is even stronger because of the Indian expatriate community. Millions of people of Indian origin live in Malaysia, a large number of whom belong to the Tamil speaking community.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Vijay was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Several political and film personalities were present at the swearing-in ceremony, including Rahul Gandhi, actor Vijay’s family and actress Trisha Krishna.

TVK performed brilliantly in the election results, winning 108 seats out of 234, although the party fell just short of a majority. Later, formation of the government became possible with the support of Congress and other parties.

TVK was established in 2024, but Vijay has long been in the news through his films on topics like social issues and corruption. Even before coming into politics, he was considered active on issues of public interest.
