Ram Charan's unusual cricket shots in 'Peddi' explained: Cinematographer Ratnavelu says 'Peddi is not a perfect cricketer'

Ram Charan starrer ‘Peddi’ is a sports action drama where the actor will be seen playing cricket and indulging in wrestling. As the movie gears up for its release next month, cinematographer Ratnavelu recently talked about the cricketing aspect of Ram Charan’s character Peddi, revealing that he is not portrayed as a perfect cricketer.
Ever since the first glimpse was released, fans have been talking about the unusual cricket shots shown in the teaser and songs. In a scene, Ram Charan walks down the pitch, hits the bat on the ground, and then smashes the ball for a six. Another similar shot was seen at the end of the ‘Rai Rai Raa Raa’ song.
As per a 123Telugu report, Ratnavelu, speaking about Peddi’s character, said the role was never meant to look like a trained professional cricketer. “Peddi is a guy who is not a perfect cricketer. He is a village brat and plays gully cricket. He can’t play textbook cricket shots like cover drives, pull shots, or straight drives,” he said.
He further explained that Peddi plays cricket in his own rough and energetic style. Ratnavelu added, “So he does all kinds of stunts, puts a beedi in his mouth, and whacks the ball for a six.”
A raw village style of cricketThe team also worked closely with local cricket players while designing those scenes. Ratnavelu revealed, “We interacted with local players to design those shots.”
‘Peddi’ release dateAhead of its global release on June 4, the makers recently took to their social media handle to officially announce that the trailer of the movie will be released digitally on May 18, 2026. The production took to its Instagram handle to share a brand new poster of the actor in a rugged avatar.
‘Peddi’ features Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyendu Sharma and Boman Irani in important roles.The makers confirmed that ‘Peddi’ will release worldwide on June 4, 2026, while the premiere shows will be held a day earlier on June 3. It will be released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
