Dubai. India have retained their top spot in the ICC men’s ODI team rankings in the latest annual update while defending world champions Australia are placed third. In a statement issued on Monday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said, “India remains at the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings after the latest annual update. It is ahead of second-placed New Zealand (113 points) by just five points while Australia (109 points) remains at the third position and is among the top three teams.

India has lost one rating point and has 118 points in its account. In the annual ranking update, matches played after May 2025 are given full weightage (100 percent) while results of the last two years are given half weightage (50 percent). South Africa has reached fourth position with 102 points, surpassing Pakistan (98). There is no change in the positions of the rest of the teams in the top 10.

Sri Lanka (96), Afghanistan (93) and England (89) are the other teams in the top eight. Bangladesh are in ninth place with 84 points while West Indies now have 74 points. West Indies was behind Bangladesh by six points in the last update but now this gap has increased to 10 points. “This will have important implications for both teams as they seek to achieve direct qualification for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027,” the ICC said.

ICC said, “The top eight teams in the ICC rankings till March 31, 2027 will gain direct qualification. Apart from these, hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have also qualified automatically.” In this context, if South Africa remains in the top eight positions, then the ninth position will be important to get a direct ticket to the World Cup. Ireland (54) has overtaken Zimbabwe (53) to reach 11th position while America has reached 13th position. America (46) has left Scotland (44) behind. UAE has also benefited and is in 19th place, leaving behind Canada which has a total of 16 points.
