Fans who were disappointed by Priyanka Chopra Jonas's absence at the Met Gala were treated to a breathtaking appearance at the Gold House Gala in Los Angeles, where she received the Global Vanguard Honour. The actress donned an exquisite off-white Chikankari gown crafted by renowned Indian designer Amit Aggarwal. Accompanied by her mother, Madhu Chopra, Priyanka seamlessly blended the classic elegance of traditional Chikankari with modern aesthetics.
Aggarwal elaborated on the design, stating, “For the Gold House Gala, I aimed to reinterpret the exquisite Chikankari craft through a contemporary and global perspective. Originating from Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka's home state, Chikankari boasts a rich heritage. Lucknow, known for its Mughal history, continues to influence this craft. The intricate Mughal jaal and the elegance of parametric architecture are interconnected through biomimicry. My vision for her gown was to create a passage of light.”
In creating this piece, Aggarwal resurrected a Chikankari saree that was two decades old. “It was meticulously embroidered by women on a delicate chiffon using a single silk thread, representing one of India's most intricate lace-making techniques. I took that softness and openness and reimagined it using rubber cord, recycled glass, and hand-formed beads — all hallmark materials of my brand,” he explained.
Describing the gown as a tribute to Priyanka, Aggarwal remarked, “In every interaction with Priyanka, I have sensed her unique brilliance. This piece is a tribute to her essence, the path she has forged, and to all those who will follow in her footsteps.”
During the gala, Priyanka was awarded the inaugural Global Vanguard Award. In her heartfelt acceptance speech, she honored her mother, Madhu Chopra, calling her “the kind of mother who looks after my child while I am away filming for weeks — just like my grandmother.”
On the occasion of Mother’s Day, Priyanka reflected on the powerful women who influenced her life. “I grew up in a lineage of strong women who supported each other and celebrated each other's successes. I heard many speak today about the importance of education and independence. I had that mother, and so did my mother. Thank you for being the cornerstone of my identity, for always being a lifelong learner. I love you. Happy Mother’s Day.”
