Masterchef hosts Grace Dent and Anna Haugh were back to present the last round of heats on Monday evening. The BBC cooking show saw six more amateur chefs serving up a dinner party menu that would have guests begging for the recipe.
The dishes served up in this round included a posh cheese sandwich and a Middle Eastern dessert. With the two best efforts granted a place in the quarter finals, the remaining four had to prove their worth with a meringue roulade. As the judges used their expertise to pick out the best dish, fans online shared their thoughts on the hosts. The duo replaced long-time hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode as of May 2026 - but there has been a very mixed reaction to the changes. Posting to Reddit, one viewer noted that while they loved the new presenters, there was still room for improvement - especially from Grace.
They penned: "So far I enjoy the new season without Greg and John. But in my opinion, as much as I love Grace Dent, I feel like she is too soft on the constants.
"I want her to be more tough just like Anna. I like Anna's tough criticism, it's a fresh start to the UK franchise but they need to toughen Grace. Please make her tougher and less soft."
Someone else replied to say: "Oh you are in for a treat, Grace can be savage with critique but in such a way you can't help but laugh, and she gets away with it.
"I am really enjoying this series, Grace and Anna have brought a breath of fresh air to the show, which I must admit I didn't think it needed until I realised it did."
Another person wrote: "I did feel Grace and John had really nice chemistry together on whichever series they presented, so a bit of a shame to not see that develop more. But Anna is fine. Grace is a big upgrade to the show vs Greg in my opinion."
However, other fans wanted different hosts completely. "Not a fan of Anna. Would have loved to see Matt Tebbit there instead," one said.
Another echoed: "Stopped watching it as I can't stand Grace Dent."
