Meghan Markle could be returning to the UK this summer. Yes, you did read that correctly.

The Duchess of Sussex, who hasn't stepped foot in husband Prince Harry's home country since 2022, could return. And if she does, this will be for a very special reason - to be with Harry as they celebrate the one-year countdown event to the 2027 Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham.

However, any return to the UK for Meghan will be a much bigger deal than any other trip overseas.

This is because Meghan is potentially one of the most controversial members of the Royal Family, especially since her and Harry quit royal life in 2020. And not only did they quit, but they went on to slate the Firm and Harry's relatives - a move some think is unforgivable.

This means that Meghan's return to the UK - whether this year or any other - will need to be handled very carefully to avoid it being a disaster.

How can she avoid it being a disaster, you ask? Well, as a royal expert I think this is how.

She needs to show some form of being sorry for criticising our Royal Family. It is these criticisms which have made the British public so critical of her.

And I think the best way for her to do this would be to be seen going into Clarence House to see King Charles.

We don't need to know what is said, or use it as a photo op, or anything like that. But I think we do need to see that relations are improving. Because until we see that, I don't think the opinion of the public will change.

How are Brits supposed to forgive if the royals can't?

Meghan's next UK trip is going to be critical in determining the end result of how she ends up being perceived by Brits long term. She has one chance to make sure it is not a disaster, and I just hope it goes well for everyone's sake.
