In a bid to promote rabies prevention in the national capital, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to acquire 120,000 doses of rabies vaccine over the next two years. This information was shared by officials on Monday.

According to the authorities, the corporation has issued a tender for the procurement of these vaccines, aiming to ensure uninterrupted treatment for individuals affected by dog bites and other animal bites within the city's public health framework.

The estimated cost for this purchase, managed by the hospital administration department of the MCD, is approximately ₹2.52 crores. The vaccines will be distributed to over 280 health centers operated by the MCD, which include hospitals, dispensaries, maternity centers, and mobile health units.

Additionally, more than 25 specialized rabies vaccination (ARV) centers under the supply department will also receive these vaccines. Official statistics indicate that the corporation manages at least 20 animal birth control centers across various locations, including Dwarka, Bijwasan, and Rohini. Authorities estimate that between 60,000 to 70,000 dog bite incidents will be reported in the national capital by 2025.
