Niti Aayog praised Punjab, efforts of Bhagwant Mann government bore fruit
According to information received from Chandigarh, Punjab has made an important achievement in the field of school education. Punjab has been declared India’s best performing state in NITI Aayog’s Education Quality Report 2026, overtaking long-time leader Kerala.
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has seen this achievement as a new beginning. He said that this honor belongs to all those parents, students and teachers who kept faith in government schools. This success did not happen in a day, rather it is the result of better policies, strong intentions and effective implementation.
Main points of NITI Aayog report
Sharing data from the NITI Aayog report, Harjot Singh Bains said Punjab has scored 82 per cent marks in Class 3 language proficiency and 78 per cent marks in Mathematics, while Kerala has scored 75 per cent and 70 per cent marks respectively. Punjab recorded 52 per cent proficiency in Class 9 mathematics, which is higher than Kerala’s 45 per cent.
He said that the positive results of the reforms undertaken under the Mission Samarth and School of Eminence programs under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann are now clearly visible.
improvement in government schools
According to the NITI Aayog report, 99.9 per cent of government schools in the state now have electricity facilities, 99 per cent of schools have functional computers and more than 80 per cent of schools are equipped with smart classrooms. Furthermore, more than 90 percent of Class X students are now enrolled in Class XI, indicating a reduction in the dropout rate. At present the student-teacher ratio is 22:1.
