The UK is forecast to see 36 hours of snow this week, as temperatures drop to 0C. WXCharts has forecast cold weather arriving on Tuesday, with snow and low temperatures.
Snowfallis expected to begin at 12pm on Tuesday (May 12) and continue until 12am on Thursday (May 14). Maps show it starting in the Grampians at lunchtime, before spreading into west and east Scotland (Aberdeen, Fort William) by the evening. By midnight, the West Coast of Scotland and northern England (Dumfries, Kendal, Blackpool) could see snow. On Wednesday morning, central Scotland, South-east Scotland (Berwick), north England (Manchester, York, Hull), and north Wales (Conwy) will also receive a coating of the white stuff. The rest of Wednesday is forecast to see scattered showers in central Scotland, north Scotland (Wick, Inverness), and North-west England. During this period, rainwill fall across most of the UK, heaviest on Wednesday afternoon.
Temperatures will also be low. It will be coldest on Wednesday morning in central Scotland, where it will get as cold as 0C. Scotland will sit between 0C and 10C.
The North of England is forecast to see temperatures between 3C and 12C; the Midlands will be between 5C and 13C; the South of England will be between 6C and 15C; Wales will be between 4C and 10C; and Northern Ireland will be between 4C and 10C.
Meanwhile, the MetOfficesaid of the period: "Rain moving southeastwards on Tuesday. This is followed on Wednesday and Thursday by sunshine and showers, heavy and thundery at times. Rather cool and often breezy. Further overnight frosts."
This Evening and Tonight: Evening rain across Scotland moves south, reaching central areas by dawn. Showers follow, becoming a little wintry over the mountains of Scotland. Clear spells elsewhere, but turning cold for the time of year, with a risk of a rural frost.
Monday: Cloud and rain continue southwards, clearing the UK into the evening. Sunny spells elsewhere, but a few showers over northern Scotland and eastern coasts of England, where breezy. Below-average temperatures.
Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: Rain moving southeastwards on Tuesday. This is followed on Wednesday and Thursday by sunshine and showers, heavy and thundery at times. Rather cool and often breezy. Further overnight frosts.
