On May 10, the 2026 Indian Premier League became the fastest season to have 1000 sixes , in terms of innings played. In the afternoon match between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants at the Chepauk, Urvil Patel hit 8 sixes in his record innings of 23-ball 65 runs.
One of those sixes came in the 6th over against Divesh Rathi. It was a maximum of 98 meters that made IPL 2026 reach the 1,000 sixes mark. Notably, the CSK vs. LSG encounter was the 53rd match of this season.
With this, 2026 IPL broke the previous record made in IPL 2024. In 2024, it took 57 matches to reach the 1000th six.

Sixes in CSK vs LSG match
A total of 27 sixes were hit in the match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) today, May 10, 2026. Meanwhile, Urvil became the first player in IPL history to hit six sixes within his first eight deliveries. LSG's Josh Inglis struck 6 sixes during his explosive 85 off 33 balls in the first innings.
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings chased down 204 runs with four balls remaining. It was Prashant Veer (17 runs) with two sixes and Shivam Dube (15 runs) with another two sixes that sealed the final few runs left after Urvil departed.
Sanju Samson (28) and Ruturaj Gaikward (42) had smacked two sixes each. From LSG, Shahbaz Ahmed (43) hit 3 sixes, while Mitchell March (10) and Himmat Singh (17) hit one apiece.

Most Sixes in 2026 IPL so far
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi of Rajasthan Royals currently leads the leaderboard for the most sixes in the 2026 IPL season with 40 sixes in 11 matches. The 15-year-old phenom has also set a record for the most sixes hit in the powerplay in a single season, with 30 of his maximums coming in the first six overs.
