Former India cricketer Yograj Singh, father of legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, has strongly criticised Punjab Kings (PBKS) fielders for dropping too many catches in recent matches during IPL 2026.
People often say that catches win matches because T20 cricket has very small margins. The repeated missed chances create serious problems for teams because Punjab Kings who currently sit in the top half of the IPL table have been dropping easy catches which they should have successfully caught.
The Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings have now lost their third consecutive match after starting the season with seven straight wins. Sunrisers Hyderabad have replaced them at the top of the table. The team has experienced a decline because their poor catching performance has hurt them. The Punjab team has committed 16 dropped catches this season which marks the most drops by any team in the league.
Yograj Singh trains cricketers at his Chandigarh cricket academy which he established after developing Yuvraj Singh into a world-class cricketer. He criticized Punjab Kings for their poor performance because they failed to make essential catches during their match.
Yograj made his statement through Sports Tak when he told journalist Vikrant Gupta that he would create difficulties for Punjab Kings players through his strict training methods.
He also recalled how Bishan Singh Bedi trained the Delhi team, where Virender Sehwag also played. Gupta should approach Sehwag to determine how he developed his exceptional fielding and catching skills according to Yograj. Sehwag faced 10-15 difficult practice catches which caused his hands to sustain red and sore injuries according to him.
Shreyas Iyer talks about his players’ poor catching:
The Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer said that their team suffered because they failed to field properly which included missing catches during the game. He explained that Punjab began their season effectively however they must now elevate their fielding performance and their game consistency to maintain their playoff position.

This season PBKS has failed to secure 16 out of 56 catching opportunities which matches the performance of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Their catch efficiency stands at 71.43%, the lowest among all 10 teams. The biggest offender has been Shashank Singh who dropped five catches in the last two matches he played for Punjab Kings.
After experiencing three consecutive losses Punjab Kings will try to bring back their IPL 2026 season. The team will play their upcoming game against Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 11 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.
