Another controversy in IPL 2026 arises after a individual in the dugout of Lucknow Super Giants(LSG) was found to be using a mobile phone during their game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday. Visuals of this went viral on social media sparking new doubts over enforcement of rules by the BCCI.
A majority of users questioned if the strict rule by the BCCI of using mobile phones in restricted areas was followed during the live game.
BCCI PMOA Rules and Prior Instance
As per the IPL Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) rule book, managers are permitted to use mobile phones only inside the dressing room. Use of phones or any other communication devices is forbidden inside the dugouts during matches. The use of computer systems are only limited to analysts working at a dedicated analyst table.
This is not the first case during the ongoing IPL 2026. Previously, Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder was spotted with his mobile in the dugout in the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Guwahati. He was later fined 1 lakh by the BCCI for violating PMOA rule and was given a warning as well.

Social Media Reaction and Rule Worries
The incident after the LSG dugout videos went viral, as netizens went online and voiced their frustration and worry. Some people even questioned the intent behind the seriousness of the leagues rule enforcement.
Still the identity of the person holding the phone, whether he was part of the LSG support staff or not remains to be seen.
BCCI's Guidelines
BCCI is watching the incident and strict following of the guidelines have already been laid for IPL 2026, after strict rules were put into play for communication devices and for match area security. Each team was told to abide by the PMOA rules at all times which means no use of mobile phones in certain designated areas.
Officials have also talked about possible threats with the use of communication devices and other security threats during the IPL, and has instructed the teams, the players and their support staff to follow the guidelines strictly. With this incident, all eyes have once again shifted towards the BCCI to see if any investigation or action is undertaken by the board.
