Creating Aadhaar for young children is essential for various reasons. For instance, many schools now require a child’s Aadhaar card as proof of identity and address during the admission process.
Child Aadhaar New Rules: The central government has introduced some modifications to the procedure for updating children’s Aadhaar cards. These modifications will impact children who are under five years old. The aim of these changes is to simplify the process of obtaining Aadhaar for children. Reports indicate that Aadhaar for children under five will now be based on a family head system. In simple terms, this means that a child’s Aadhaar can be acquired using the Aadhaar of their guardian.
However, it is crucial that both parents possess a valid Aadhaar card. Reports also state that biometric authentication has become mandatory in this process. This implies that the biometric verification of one parent will be necessary when applying for a child’s Aadhaar card. It’s important to highlight that the birth certificate serves as the primary document for verifying the child’s date of birth and their relationship to the guardian.
What was the arrangement till now?
In the past, biometric authentication from either parent was not a requirement for creating a child’s Aadhaar. This meant that children’s Aadhaar was generated solely based on the child’s photograph and birth certificate.
Additionally, regarding documentation, the process was completed based on the identification of the parents.
Why is Aadhaar needed for children?
Creating Aadhaar for young children is essential for various reasons. For instance, many schools now require a child’s Aadhaar card as proof of identity and address during the admission process. Furthermore, if you wish to obtain a passport for a child, Aadhaar serves as a key document that streamlines the process. It is also necessary for opening a bank savings account in the child’s name or for accessing investment schemes like Sukanya Samriddhi.
Understand the new changes in steps
With the new regulations, Aadhaar registration for children under five is now entirely dependent on the Head of Family (HoF). Let’s break down the steps to obtain Aadhaar. To secure a child’s Aadhaar card, first, ensure that the child’s parent or legal guardian holds a valid Aadhaar card.
This means that without the parent’s Aadhaar, the child’s Aadhaar card cannot be generated. Along with this, keep the birth certificate ready to prove the date of birth of the child and his/her relation with the family. Now go to your nearest Aadhaar enrollment centre. Fill out the enrollment form and enter the address details as per the Aadhaar card of the guardian (HoF).
It’s worth noting that fingerprints or iris scans aren’t taken for young children, so they’ll be subject to biometric authentication from one parent. This means that one parent’s fingerprints or eye scans will be taken. You will then receive a receipt and a physical copy of your Aadhaar will be sent to your address. You can also add your child’s profile to the Aadhaar app if you wish.
