Hockey India has announced the Senior Women's National Coaching Camp, which is scheduled to take place from May 11 to May 20. This camp is crucial as the team prepares for an exposure tour in Australia, leading up to the FIH Nations Cup in Auckland, New Zealand, from June 15 to June 21.
Significance of the Camp
This camp is vital for the women's hockey team as it allows them to evaluate their capabilities before significant events later this year. These include the FIH Hockey Women's World Cup 2026, set to occur in Belgium and the Netherlands from August 15 to August 30, and the 2026 Asian Games in Japan from September 19 to October 4. Notably, the winner of the FIH Nations Cup will gain direct entry into the 2026-27 FIH Hockey Pro League, with the Pro League champion securing a spot in the LA 2028 Olympics.
Details of the Coaching Camp
The upcoming camp will include the same 31 players who participated in the previous national camp in April, under the guidance of Chief Coach Sjoerd Marijne. This phase will focus on enhancing team dynamics, boosting fitness levels, and refining tactical skills.
The squad will feature a mix of seasoned players and emerging talents across all positions. The goalkeeping lineup includes Savita, Madhuri Kindo, Bansari Solanki, and Bichu Devi Kharibam, who recently received the Hockey India Baljit Singh Award. The defense will be bolstered by Nikki Pradhan, Udita, Ishika Chaudhary, Jyoti Singh, Lalthantluangi, Jyoti, and Shilpi Dabas, providing a strong defensive foundation. In midfield, Captain Salima Tete will lead alongside Sushila Chanu, Manisha Chauhan, Vaishnavi Phalke, Neha, Sakshi Rana, Sunelita Toppo, and Ishika, ensuring versatility and control. The forward line will consist of Navneet Kaur, Deepika, Lalremsiami, Mumtaz Khan, Deepika Soreng, Rutaja Dadaso Pisal, Baljeet Kaur, Annu, Beauty Dungdung, Hina Bano, Sonam, and Sangita Kumari, combining experience with youthful energy.
Insights from the Coach
Chief Coach Sjoerd Marijne expressed his views on the upcoming camp, stating, "This will be a brief camp before our tour to Australia. The primary focus will be on fitness and enhancing our performance in these areas. We aim for consistency and to progress as a team."
