An 18-year-old bowler Tom Norton, created an unforgettable memory of the County Championship era this Friday as the county-born fast bowler's debut first-class spell against Somerset saw him bag a sensational hat-trick at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff for Glamorgan.

The County Championship Division One game produced one of the dream spells that instantly entered the record books. Tom Norton's hat-trick during Somerset's second innings on Day 2 as he was handed the new ball for Glamorgan by its coach for the first time in his career saw him bag a hat-trick on his county debut after 120 years.

James Rew was the first to fall to the teenage sensation as he edged one to second slip third ball of the fifth over. On the next ball the very next one to fall victim to Norton's swing Tom Lammonby, walked back for a golden duck after edging to the keeper putting him on a hat-trick on his first-class debut for Glamorgan against Somerset.

Archie Vaughan then walked in facing immense pressure on the crease but succumbed as Norton trapped him lbw. The crowd at Sophia Gardens went berserk with the collapse of Somerset to 7/3 inside a few balls turning the tide in Glamorgan's favour and giving them renewed hope after a challenging first innings where they were dismissed for 229.

A Rare Feat for 120 Years

Tom Norton's hat-trick becomes a far rarer feat given the history books.

The last time someone took a hat-trick on first-class debut in the County Championship was back in 1906.

WE Benskin of Leicestershire registered a hat-trick against Essex at Southend, and later in the same year HA Sedgwick completed the feat for Yorkshire against Worcestershire at Hull. Tom Norton's hat-trick therefore means he is the first player to have achieved the milestone 120 years after two others completed the feat in 1906 and has entered the company of an exclusive list of English domestic cricketers.

Glamorgan Fights Back Through Norton

The teenager was instrumental in getting Glamorgan back into the match on the second day after they had been bowled out for 229 in the first innings conceding 125 runs on the first innings after Somerset had posted 354 on their opening innings.

But Norton still impressed on the first innings bagging 3 wickets at Sophia Gardens before making the headlines with his hat-trick and with another excellent spell using the new ball put Glamorgan in control after reducing the opposition to 32/6 at the close of Day 2. They now trail by just 157 with four wickets down and will be hoping to complete the match at Sophia Gardens with Norton's help in the following morning.
