Indian women’s recurve team continued its momentum to clinch an Archery World Cup gold medal for the first time in 5 years in Shanghai on Sunday.

The trio of Deepika Kumari, Kumkum Mohod and Ankita Bhakat came back from a 2-4 deficit to defeat home favourites China in a 5-4 shoot-off win.

For Deepika, it was her 12th World Cup gold medal, and now she has tied Jyothi Surekha Vennam for the most World Cup titles for India.

This was India’s seventh World Cup title in the recurve women’s team event, and Deepika Kumari has been part of all seven of the team titles.

India had a good start to the match, edging past China in the first set by 54-53, but then the hosts showcased their class and won the next two sets (55-52, 57-56).

However, India kept their composure and forced a shoot-off as Deepika found a precise X-shot in the final shot of the last set, edging past China 54-53.

Then, in the shoot-off, India rode on their momentum, shooting all three yellow ring scores and claiming a 28-26 win over China to bag this year’s first recurve medal for India.

The Indian women’s team had a great outing in China, as they had earlier also defeated the 10-time Olympic Champion and Invincible South Korean team in the semi-finals.

Late in the day, Simranjeet Kaur, the 4th member of the Indian women’s recurve team, will be in action in the Individual semi-finals against South Korea’s Chaeyoung Kang.
