Ford Motor Company and Carhartt have officially teamed up for the new 2027 Super Duty Carhartt Edition, a truck that somehow feels both completely obvious and surprisingly well executed at the same time.
The collaboration pairs one of America’s most recognizable heavy-duty pickups with one of its most recognizable workwear brands. And honestly, it’s hard not to wonder why this didn’t happen years ago.
Built exclusively for XLT Crew Cab single-rear-wheel 4×4 models, the package adds a darker, more rugged appearance without drifting into flashy “show truck” territory. Instead of oversized chrome accents and aggressive graphics, Ford has gone for a cleaner, more functional look that genuinely fits the Super Duty’s blue-collar image.
A Truck Designed Around Workwear Culture
The Carhartt package brings a dark-painted grille, exclusive 20-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, textured running boards, spray-in bedliner, and subtle Carhartt exterior graphics. Inside, the cabin leans heavily into the workwear theme with triple-stitched detailing, embroidered Carhartt logos, and all-weather mats inspired by the company’s tool bags.
Ford says designers from both brands spent nearly a year developing the truck together. In one of the more unusual design inspirations of the year, the wheel patterns were reportedly influenced by manhole covers outside Carhartt’s flagship Detroit store.
Oddly specific? Absolutely. But it somehow works.
What makes this special edition feel different from many other brand tie-ins is restraint. Ford didn’t overload the truck with giant logos or gimmicky accents. The muted colors, dark trim, and durable materials give the truck a cohesive personality instead of making it feel like a rolling advertisement.
Why Not Use Real Carhartt Fabric?
One detail that immediately caught attention was Ford’s decision not to use actual Carhartt Duck Canvas material inside the cabin.
According to Ford, automotive upholstery standards require different levels of abrasion resistance, durability, and stain protection than clothing fabrics. In simple terms, what works great for jackets and overalls doesn’t necessarily survive years inside a pickup truck exposed to heat, mud, tools, and constant wear.
Still, the cabin captures the spirit of Carhartt without feeling overly themed.
Selling Toughness To People Already Sold On It
Here’s the interesting part: this collaboration may not actually be about attracting new buyers.
Unlike older partnerships such as the Eddie Bauer Explorer, which helped give SUVs an outdoors lifestyle identity, Ford and Carhartt already share almost identical audiences. Both brands are deeply tied to durability, hard work, construction culture, and rugged American identity.
That raises a funny but fair question: was there really a buyer out there waiting to purchase a Super Duty only after Carhartt logos appeared on the seats?
Probably not.
But that may completely miss the purpose of this truck. The Carhartt Edition feels less like a conquest product and more like a celebration of an identity many Super Duty owners already embrace. It reinforces the image Ford customers already see themselves living every day.
And honestly, for buyers who already own steel-toe boots, work gloves, trailers, and multiple Carhartt jackets, this truck probably makes perfect sense.
Instead of trying too hard to be cool, the 2027 Super Duty Carhartt Edition succeeds by staying authentic to the audience both brands already know extremely well.
