The Hindi-Kannada film ‘September-21’ is poised to make its mark at the Cannes Film Festival. Actress Priyanka Upendra will play the lead role in this poignant story centered around Alzheimer’s disease and the emotional journey of caregivers. Recently, the actress and the film’s director, Karen Kshiti Suvarna, engaged in a conversation about the project. The director described the title as the soul of the film. “At this moment, I cannot share much about the film’s depth, but I can say that the true significance of the film’s date will be understood by the audience only after watching it,” she stated. On the film’s international debut, Priyanka noted that Indian cinema has been garnering acclaim on a global scale since the era of Satyajit Ray. She remarked, “The film reaching an international audience certainly boosts our morale, but as an artist, the quality of content and the sincerity of acting are paramount for me. We work not just for awards but to showcase our creativity. If the story is genuine, it resonates with audiences across languages and nations.” The actress expressed her pride in representing Indian cinema on such a global platform with a significant theme. “The audience there is very sensitive and appreciates meaningful stories. I also have an emotional connection with Cannes. Being from Bengal, I’ve grown up hearing about how Satyajit Ray gained international recognition. Therefore, this moment feels very special to me. It’s a new experience, and I am truly excited about it.” Reflecting on the emotional experiences during filming, she shared, “Every moment of this film was crucial for me. I felt deeply connected to each scene. The director’s team made this experience even more special. Working with such talented co-actors made every scene memorable.”
