Kolkata: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal, led by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has begun a major restructuring of the Chief Minister’s Office.
In a significant administrative move, retired IAS officer Subrata Gupta has been appointed as Advisor to the Chief Minister.
Extensive administrative experienceSubrata Gupta, a 1990-batch IAS officer, brings extensive administrative experience. Ahead of the recent Assembly elections, he was appointed as a Special Roll Observer by the Election Commission for the Special Summary Revision (SIR) of voter lists.
Officials said his experience is expected to guide the government in policy formulation, inter-departmental coordination, and administrative decision-making.
An official notification issued on Saturday stated that Gupta has been directed to assume charge with immediate effect.
Shantanu Bala appointed Private SecretaryIn another key appointment, Shantanu Bala of the 2017 batch has been named Private Secretary to the Chief Minister.
He previously served as Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of South 24 Parganas district and has now been transferred to the Chief Minister’s Office.
Government sources said the restructuring aims to improve transparency and efficiency in administration following the change in government in the state.
