Amidst the ongoing tussle over the formation of the new government in Tamil Nadu, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has announced its unconditional support to the Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) for government formation. This support has given new strength to the process of forming the government in the state.

Party’s national president Kader Mohideen, while handing over the letter of support, called it an important step towards political stability. This letter was handed over to TVK Executive Committee Chief Coordinator Sengottaiyan and Policy-Promotion General Secretary Arun Raj.

On this occasion, Sengottaiyan welcomed the support of IUML and expressed his gratitude. He said that his party’s leadership has always been promoting inclusive ideology. It is often said about our leader that he accepts all religions, but in reality he says from every platform that every religion is our religion. This reflects his inclusive thinking.

Sengottaiyan said that the united support of various sections and communities has paved the way for handing over the responsibility of governance to their leader. He expressed his gratitude to all the supporters and allies for this cooperation.

He further said that after the support of Indian Union Muslim League, an atmosphere of peace and relief is being felt not only in the state but in the entire country. According to him, this support will strengthen social harmony and political stability.

TVK general secretary Arun Raj said that we have received support from IUML and other parties. IUML leaders have supported our party. We have crossed the required majority mark to form the government and very soon our leader will take oath as CM.

Earlier, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) had also announced its support to TVK, paving the way for Vijay to muster the required numbers to stake claim to form the government before the Governor.

As per the latest figures, TVK has the support of 120 MLAs, including 107 from TVK, five from Congress, and two each from CPI, CPI(M), VCK and IUML.

Voting was held in a single phase on April 23 for all 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu. This election saw a tough contest between DMK, AIADMK, Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) and TVK.

In the results declared on May 4, TVK emerged as the largest party with 108 seats. However, when Vijay decided to retain only one of the two seats he won, the party’s effective strength dropped to 107.

There was a strong political stir in Chennai following the results, with TVK starting talks with several parties with the aim of garnering support to form the government.
