ethanol blending
Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia, India is now preparing to reduce dependence on imported crude oil and rapidly promote renewable energy. According to reports, the government is considering increasing ethanol blending in petrol from the current 20% to 25%. This increase can be implemented in a phased manner.
Preparation to reduce dependence on crude oil
Due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the supply of oil and gas has been affected across the world. This has led to a sharp rise in the prices of crude oil. In such a situation, India is now focusing on strengthening domestic energy security.
According to government officials, 20% ethanol blending has saved India about 45 million barrels of crude oil imports every year. Due to this, foreign exchange worth about Rs 1.5 lakh crore has also been saved.
Consideration of 25% ethanol blending
The government is now investigating whether the amount of ethanol in petrol can be gradually increased to 25% or not. However, caution will be taken in this decision as there are concerns regarding the mileage of vehicles, engine efficiency and long-term impact on vehicles.
India is also increasing refining capacity
Along with renewable energy, India is also increasing its domestic refining capacity so that the impact of the global supply crisis can be reduced. According to the report, Barmer Refinery has started work, while the expansion work of Numaligarh Refinery is going on. Apart from this, work is also being done on new refinery projects in Maharashtra and Gujarat.
Petroleum reserves are also being strengthened
The government is also strengthening the Strategic Petroleum Reserves, so that the country has adequate oil stocks in times of global crisis.
Now green energy is becoming a strategic need
Officials say that now renewable energy, biofuel and green hydrogen are no longer just an environmental issue, but are becoming a strategic need of the country. Energy experts believe that by working rapidly on clean energy, India will be able to protect its economy from sudden fluctuations in international oil prices in the future and will be able to become more self-reliant in terms of energy.
