Chennai, 9 May. The doubt over the formation of the new government in the southern state of Tamil Nadu ended on Saturday, when the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) officially announced its support to Thalapathy Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). With this, the way was cleared for the formation of a new government under the leadership of Thiru Vijay.
VCK President Thol. Thirumavalavan handed over the official letter of support to TVK general secretary (election campaign management) Aadhav Arjun. Thirumavalavan in the letter extended his support to TVK to form the government in the state.
After receiving the letter of support from VCK, TVK leader Aadhav Arjun called it a ‘victory’. He showed a letter from VCK ‘extending support’ to TVK on forming the government. In this sequence, Arjun thanked Congress, Left and VCK Chief Thirumavalavan for their support. He expressed confidence that Vijay will become the Chief Minister.
vck At present Will support TVK from outside
VCK leader Vanni Arasu, who is also the leader of the legislature party, has written a letter to Governor Arlekar announcing his support to TVK. However VCK sources said the party, for now, will support Vijay from outside in his bid to form TVK’s first government.
Vijay will meet the Governor for the fourth consecutive day
It is believed that Vijay may meet Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar very soon. This will be the fourth consecutive time in four days that Vijay will meet the Governor. He has been meeting the Governor for the last three consecutive days, but he has been disappointed again and again because the Governor was not convinced by the letters of support presented by him from various parties.
TVK Supporters celebrated by taking to the streets in Chennai
Well, there was a wave of happiness in TVK after the announcement of VCK’s support to form government in Tamil Nadu. TVK supporters expressed their happiness by taking to the streets in Chennai. With the support of two VCK MLAs, TVK has now touched the majority mark (118) in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.
It is noteworthy that Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam under the leadership of Vijay has won 108 seats in the assembly elections, which is 10 less than the majority. The party had later sought support from Congress, CPI, CPI(M) and VCK – all allies of the DMK – to form the government in Tamil Nadu. Vijay has won two seats, but he will have to resign from one of them, reducing the party’s seats to 107. The total number of MLAs from parties supporting TVK – Congress (5) and CPI, CPI (M) and VCK – is 11.
