The people of Dubai can now get a new waterfront area to visit this summer season with the reopening of the refurbished Al Mamzar Beach that recently opened its gates to the public in the city. In an announcement posted by the Dubai Municipality on its Twitter handle @DMunicipality, the new attraction will offer the public a wide variety of facilities, such as a women-only night beach, floating walkway, water sports, fitness areas, play zones, and bicycle and jogging paths.

The completion of the first phase of the Dh500 million redevelopment project of the Dubai Municipality comes after the completion of construction work on both the Al Mamzar Beach and the adjacent Al Mamzar Corniche. The total area covered under the project is close to four million square feet.

One of the most striking aspects of the newly developed waterfront area is the installation of the first-ever floating walkway in the Khor Al Mamzar area. The new facility will allow visitors to walk above the water surface and enjoy scenic views of the surrounding waterscape and Dubai skyline.

An improvement in the beach is also characterized by a significant emphasis on outdoor leisure and fitness activities. These include the provision of opportunities to go jet skiing, kayaking, paddle boating, and flyboarding, as well as fitness equipment and sports facilities such as padel courts. In addition, over 5.5 km of walking, running, and cycling paths link the beach, the lagoon, the corniche, and Al Mamzar Beach Park.

A number of accessibility features that are expected to enhance inclusivity have also been mentioned in relation to this initiative. Facilities for People of Determination include wheelchair-friendly access, dedicated swimming chairs, and trained lifeguards equipped to assist visitors with disabilities.

Al Mamzar’s beach upgrade is just one of the developments being made under Dubai’s Dh3 billion coastal development and expansion program. The plan involves expanding the city’s total beach capacity by 170 per cent by 2030. Other similar developments are being made in the Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, and Jebel Ali regions among others.
