Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the oath-taking ceremony of West Bengal's first BJP government as a remarkable coincidence, as it coincided with the birth anniversary of the revered Rabindranath Tagore, celebrated on Poila Boishakh. In a post on Twitter, Modi highlighted this auspicious alignment, noting that the ceremony paid tribute to Tagore. His timeless words have long stirred the nation's conscience, and his vision will continue to illuminate India's path to progress.
Suvendu Adhikari Takes Office
Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of West Bengal, marking the end of the Trinamool Congress's 15-year rule. Five BJP leaders, including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Khudiram Tudu, and Nishith Pramanik, also took their oaths as ministers in the new state cabinet. The ceremony, held in Kolkata, was attended by prominent figures such as Prime Minister Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, and Dharmendra Pradhan, along with several other chief ministers, including Manik Saha from Tripura, Himanta Biswa Sarma from Assam, Rekha Gupta from Delhi, and Pushkar Dhami from Uttarakhand.
Post-Ceremony Engagements
Following the ceremony, the Prime Minister met with the families of BJP workers Debasis Mandal, Soumitra Ghoshal, and Anand Paul, who were tragically murdered. The oath was administered by Governor R.N. Ravi during this grand event. The BJP achieved a historic victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, securing 207 seats and ending the TMC's 15-year governance, while the TMC managed to win only 80 seats.
