Police have launched an investigation after a woman was allegedly raped in a town centre high street. Officers were called to reports of a rape in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, in the early hours of May 2.
The incident is alleged to have taken place in Bank Street, Mexborough at 2.09am. South Yorkshire Police said a 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.
Both have been released on bail pending further investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Susannah Wagstaff said: "We know that news of this incident will cause concern in our local communities but I want to reassure you that we have a team of detectives working hard to progress this investigation.
"While officers conduct their enquiries, anyone who might have information about this incident is asked to contact us online or on 101, quoting incident number 85 of 2 May 2026."
The victim is being supported by specialist officers.
