IPL 2026 DC vs KKR: Finn Allen Smashes Unbeaten Century As Kolkata Knight Riders Win Big
The IPL 2026 playoff race witnessed another dramatic twist on Friday night after Kolkata Knight Riders produced a commanding all round performance to defeat Delhi Capitals by eight wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. In a match that carried enormous playoff significance for both teams, Kolkata delivered one of their most complete performances of the season as explosive New Zealand batter Finn Allen smashed a breathtaking unbeaten century to completely dismantle Delhi’s bowling attack.
The victory marked Kolkata Knight Riders’ fourth consecutive win of the season and significantly revived their playoff ambitions at a crucial stage of the tournament. At the same time, the defeat pushed Delhi Capitals dangerously close to elimination after another disappointing batting and bowling performance under pressure.
The evening ultimately belonged to Finn Allen, whose fearless power hitting transformed the chase into a one sided contest despite Delhi attempting to defend their modest total under home conditions. Allen’s astonishing innings of unbeaten 100 runs from only 47 deliveries included ten massive sixes and five boundaries as he single handedly destroyed Delhi’s hopes.
The New Zealand batter attacked from the very beginning and never allowed the required run rate to create pressure. His clean ball striking, aggressive intent and fearless approach completely shifted momentum toward Kolkata Knight Riders during the chase.
The victory now places Kolkata firmly back into playoff discussions after a difficult beginning to their IPL 2026 campaign. Delhi Capitals, however, now face an almost impossible qualification scenario after suffering their seventh defeat in eleven matches.
The contest began with Delhi Capitals batting first after losing the toss. The home side desperately needed a strong batting performance considering the importance of the match in the playoff race. However, despite a promising start from Pathum Nissanka, Delhi once again failed to build substantial partnerships during the middle overs.
Nissanka looked confident from the beginning and played several attractive attacking shots during the powerplay. The Sri Lankan opener scored a fluent half century from just twenty nine deliveries and attempted to give Delhi positive momentum on a surface that initially looked suitable for batting.
Alongside him, KL Rahul also looked composed early in the innings. The pair negotiated the initial pace attack well and rotated strike effectively while targeting loose deliveries.
However, Kolkata Knight Riders gradually tightened their grip through disciplined bowling and intelligent tactical changes. Captain Ajinkya Rahane displayed strong tactical awareness by introducing spin bowling early in the innings, and that decision completely changed the direction of the contest.
The spin trio of Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Anukul Roy delivered a masterclass in middle over control.
Kolkata’s spinners slowly strangled the Delhi batting lineup by drying up boundaries and forcing risky shots. Narine was exceptionally economical once again and conceded only seventeen runs during his spell while maintaining relentless pressure.
Varun Chakravarthy may not have picked up wickets, but his spell proved equally crucial. The mystery spinner bowled with tremendous discipline and prevented Delhi batters from accelerating during the middle phase.
The biggest breakthrough came through Anukul Roy, who delivered one of his finest IPL performances. Roy removed Pathum Nissanka immediately after the batter reached his half century and then dismissed Tristan Stubbs in the same over to trigger a major collapse.
Delhi’s batting lineup once again struggled under scoreboard pressure. Nitish Rana failed to make an impact while Sameer Rizvi also departed cheaply against Kolkata’s spin attack.
The middle overs completely belonged to Kolkata Knight Riders as Delhi lost wickets regularly while boundaries almost disappeared entirely from the innings.
The Capitals went through a long boundary drought that exposed the growing pressure inside the dressing room. Kolkata’s bowlers maintained excellent control over line and length while their fielding unit supported the bowlers brilliantly.
Although Delhi suffered another collapse, Ashutosh Sharma provided some late resistance with an aggressive cameo lower down the order. Ashutosh scored thirty nine runs from twenty eight deliveries and attempted to push the total toward respectability during the death overs.
His innings included several powerful boundaries and sixes that finally brought some momentum back for Delhi after prolonged stagnation.
Despite Ashutosh’s efforts, Delhi Capitals could only manage 142 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted overs, which immediately appeared below par considering the conditions and the batting depth available in the squad.
Kolkata’s pace bowlers also complemented the spin attack effectively throughout the innings. Kartik Tyagi delivered important breakthroughs and finished with two wickets while Vaibhav Arora and Cameron Green also contributed with crucial wickets.
Once the chase began, Delhi Capitals desperately needed early wickets to defend their modest total. For a brief moment, they managed to create some hope after Ajinkya Rahane suffered an unfortunate run out and young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi was dismissed in unusual fashion.
However, Finn Allen ensured Delhi never truly entered the contest.
The aggressive opener attacked both pace and spin fearlessly and completely dismantled Delhi’s bowling plans. His power hitting was extraordinary throughout the innings as he repeatedly cleared the boundary with remarkable ease.
Allen especially targeted anything pitched short or slightly overpitched and quickly transformed the required chase into a straightforward task for Kolkata.
The Delhi bowlers appeared completely helpless against the intensity of Allen’s strokeplay. Their attempts to vary pace, change angles and introduce spin failed to stop the relentless assault.
Several of Allen’s sixes travelled deep into the stands as the New Zealand batter produced one of the most destructive innings of IPL 2026.
What impressed cricket experts even more was Allen’s composure despite the importance of the match. Kolkata entered the contest under immense pressure because another defeat could have seriously damaged their playoff hopes.
Instead of playing cautiously, Allen adopted an ultra aggressive approach and completely shifted pressure back onto Delhi Capitals.
The atmosphere inside the Arun Jaitley Stadium gradually became quieter as Allen continued dominating the bowling attack. Delhi’s field placements became increasingly defensive while their bowlers struggled to execute yorkers or slower deliveries effectively.
The chase was completed in only 14.2 overs, underlining Kolkata’s complete dominance during the second innings.
The result dramatically impacts the IPL 2026 points table and playoff race.
Kolkata Knight Riders, who had earlier struggled badly for consistency, now appear to be peaking at the right moment. Four consecutive victories have completely changed the mood within the dressing room and revived confidence among players and supporters.
Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership has also started receiving praise after criticism earlier in the season. His tactical use of spin bowling and calm approach under pressure have helped Kolkata recover strongly.
The improved performances from key players such as Finn Allen, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy have significantly strengthened Kolkata’s campaign.
For Delhi Capitals, however, the situation has become extremely difficult.
The team has now lost seven of its eleven matches and their playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. The batting lineup continues to show inconsistency while the bowling attack has repeatedly failed to defend totals under pressure.
Captaincy decisions and team combinations may also come under fresh scrutiny after another disappointing home defeat.
One of Delhi’s biggest concerns this season has been their inability to perform collectively. Individual performances have occasionally produced moments of promise, but the team has struggled to maintain consistency across departments.
The failure to capitalize on home conditions has particularly hurt their campaign badly.
Cricket analysts also pointed toward Delhi’s struggles against quality spin bowling throughout IPL 2026. Kolkata’s spinners exploited those weaknesses brilliantly and completely controlled the middle phase of the innings.
Finn Allen’s century is now being discussed as one of the standout innings of IPL 2026.
The innings showcased modern T20 batting at its most fearless and destructive level. Allen not only scored quickly but also psychologically broke the opposition through relentless attacking cricket.
His knock may eventually prove to be one of the defining moments of Kolkata Knight Riders’ season if the franchise successfully qualifies for the playoffs.
The victory also highlighted Kolkata’s improving balance as a team. Earlier in the season, concerns existed regarding batting consistency and bowling support around Narine and Chakravarthy.
However, recent performances indicate the squad is finally settling into a stronger rhythm.
For Delhi Capitals, the coming matches are now virtually must win contests. The franchise still possesses talented players, but their margin for error has almost disappeared completely.
Supporters of the team were visibly disappointed after another collapse in front of the home crowd, especially considering the importance of the match.
As IPL 2026 approaches the final stages of the league phase, momentum is becoming increasingly crucial.
Kolkata Knight Riders suddenly appear like one of the most dangerous teams in the competition after their recent resurgence, while Delhi Capitals are now facing serious questions regarding strategy, execution and overall team balance.
The playoff race remains extremely competitive, but Friday night clearly belonged to Kolkata Knight Riders and Finn Allen, whose sensational century may ultimately become one of the defining innings of the tournament.
