Suvendu Adhikari: Kolkata's historic Brigade Parade Ground turned into a saffron ocean today as Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the first BJP Chief Minister of West Bengal, ending 15 years of TMC rule. But amidst this grand celebration and the taste of 'Jhal Mudi', what mysterious turn is the politics of Bengal headed towards with the new team of five ministers?
Suvendu Adhikari West Bengal Chief Minister: Today a chapter has been added to the politics of West Bengal whose echo will be heard for decades. Kolkata's historic Brigade Parade Ground today turned into a 'saffron ocean' when senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari took the oath of office and secrecy as the first BJP Chief Minister of the state. By winning 207 seats in the 294-member assembly, BJP has not only captured power but has also demolished Mamata Banerjee's 15-year-old fort.

A grand stage and historical witness
The grandeur of this ceremony organized at the Parade Ground in Kolkata was a sight to behold. Governor RN Ravi administered the oath to the officer in the august presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states. Backstage, Bengal's cultural heritage—the Dakshineswar temple and the artefacts of Maa Durga—reflected the confluence of the state's new identity and cultural nationalism.

Celebrating the change of power with the taste of 'Jhal Mudi'
Not only Bengal, but also supporters from far away countries like Jharkhand and Canada came to attend the function. The chanting of Jai Shri Ram and the beats of traditional Chhau dance made the atmosphere festive. Interestingly, 'Jhal Mudi' was distributed among the supporters at the venue. This is the same popular Bengali breakfast that PM Modi tasted in Jhargram during the election campaign, which has now become a symbol of the grassroots connect of the new government of Bengal.
Five charioteers of 'Suvendu Cabinet': Who are those faces?
The most suspenseful part of the swearing-in ceremony was the formation of the cabinet. Suvendu Adhikari has included five strong leaders in his first team:
- Dilip Ghosh: Former state president and old RSS pracharak, who strengthened the foundation of BJP in Bengal.
- Agnimitra Paul: Fashion designer turned politician Agnimitra is the only female face in this cabinet.
- Nishith Pramanik: Influential youth leader of North Bengal.
- Khudiram Tudu and Ashok Kirtaniya: Strategist who led the party to victory at the grassroots level.
First step towards the resolution of 'Sonar Bangla'
Suvendu Adhikari greeted Prime Minister Modi immediately after taking oath. BJP supporters believe that this is not just a transfer of power, but the independence of Bengal from the 'clutches' of TMC. Now the biggest challenge before Suvendu will be to bring the law and order of the state back on track and put the development model of 'Sonar Bangla' on the ground.

Is this a change in the permanent politics of Bengal?
BJP's journey that started with just 3 seats in 2016, reaching 207 seats in 2026 is one of the biggest events in Indian electoral history. Will this public trust in the leadership of Prime Minister Modi be able to revive Bengal industrially and economically? The answer to this is hidden in the future, but this morning has brought a new hope for Bengal.
