The Uttar Pradesh government has stated that more than 29 lakh elderly women across the state are currently receiving benefits under the Old Age Pension Scheme being implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. According to officials from the Social Welfare Department, the scheme is intended to provide financial assistance and social security to economically weaker and destitute elderly women in both rural and urban areas.

Under the programme, beneficiaries receive financial assistance of ₹1,000 per month, with payments transferred directly into bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system every quarter. Authorities said the process is designed to ensure transparency and reduce the role of intermediaries in pension distribution. Officials added that the assistance is being used by many beneficiaries to meet expenses related to medicines, ration, and other daily needs.

Among districts, Jaunpur recorded the highest number of beneficiaries, with over one lakh elderly women receiving pension support. Azamgarh and Ballia were also among the leading districts in terms of beneficiary numbers. The government said efforts are continuing to identify eligible women and expand the scheme’s reach so that more economically vulnerable individuals can be included.

Officials stated that regular financial support has contributed to improving the economic independence and social confidence of many elderly women. The Old Age Pension Scheme remains one of several welfare programmes aimed at providing financial assistance and social support to vulnerable groups in the state.
