Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakravarthy felt an injury scare in the IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Friday, May 8.

The spinner did not look comfortable while bowling in the first innings and appeared to limp in his spell. The 32-year-old had also gone for a medical check near the boundary line when he looked to be struggling with pain on the field.

After bowling his full quota of 4 overs the spinner walked off the field and stayed in the dug-out during the match. This injury scare has been a blow to KKR who are still chasing a place in the IPL 2026 play-offs.

Though the spinner did not take any wicket he bowled a good economical spell for KKR restricting the Capitals batters for their spell of four overs-28 runs at an economy rate of 7.0. This restricted the Delhi Capitals innings greatly in the middle stages.

To date the spinner has played 8 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders this season having picked up 10 wickets at an economy of 8.62 with a three-wicket haul already under his name.

Delhi Capitals Batting Collapses after a positive start to the innings. Delhi were asked to bat first and it was in the first 5 overs when both Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul gave the team a quick start with a 49 run partnership. The two went to hit a 49-run stand between them which gave the team good momentum.

Nissanka continued with the bat as he notched up a half century scoring 50 runs for Delhi Capitals however the middle order failed after the openers were split and the team collapsed as wickets fell at regular intervals to leave Delhi five wickets down before they had even reached 100 runs.

Nitish Rana, Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs all picked up scores of single figures and none of the three batters could provide any meaningful partnerships.

Captain Axar Patel could not contribute much with the bat as the KKR bowlers proved tight on the field as well as making sure of wickets and restricting the boundaries.

Ashutosh Sharma played a gritty lower order innings finishing with 39 runs not out to guide Delhi to 142/8 off their 20 overs, ensuring they had a competitive score to defend against the home team.
