Petrol Diesel Price Today in India: Domestic petrol and diesel prices remained stable across most major Indian cities on Saturday, despite firm global crude oil markets driven by geopolitical tensions. India's oil marketing companies and the government have absorbed rising costs for over two months to prevent retail price hikes, though this arrangement is under strain.

Petrol Diesel Price News today
As the government sent feelers about a fuel price hike today, petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged on Saturday in most major cities across India, even as global crude oil markets stayed firm amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. Fuel rates in key metros such as New Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru saw no major change, while a few cities recorded small adjustments.

The buzz about the domestic fuel price hike comes as international oil prices continue to remain elevated following supply concerns in the global energy market. Brent crude moved closer to the $103 per barrel mark after rising sharply on Friday amid renewed clashes involving US and Iranian forces, raising concerns over energy supply routes.

Petrol, Diesel Price Hike Coming Soon

Oil prices rose on Friday after fresh escalation in tensions between US and Iranian forces, which has added uncertainty to global supply flows. Brent crude touched an intraday high of about $103 per barrel before easing slightly.

India, which depends heavily on imports for its energy needs, continues to monitor global crude movements as prices stay above pre-conflict levels. The Indian oil basket has also remained near $100 per barrel in recent trading sessions.

Govt under pressure to increase oil prices

Domestic fuel prices have not been fully adjusted in line with global crude movements. The government and oil marketing companies have absorbed higher costs for more than two months to avoid retail price hikes.

Officials have indicated that this arrangement is under strain due to continued high global prices and rising subsidy burden. The cost impact on state-run oil companies and the government has been significant over the period of elevated crude rates.

Official statement on Petrol, Diesel pricing

At a press briefing, Sujata Sharma, joint secretary in the petroleum ministry, said:

“The endeavour so far has been to see that there is no price increase,” she said at a press meet.

Officials also noted that India has not increased pump prices in the same proportion as several other countries since the West Asia conflict began, despite higher crude costs in the global market.
