Chennai weather today

The sky over Chennai and its suburban areas is expected to remain partly cloudy. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur in a few parts of the city. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 33–34°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 26–27°C. The intensity of the heat is expected to remain below 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Temperature Outlook for May 12

On May 12, the maximum temperature in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may gradually decrease by 2–3°C in a few isolated places and is likely to remain slightly below normal levels.

Atmospheric conditions

An atmospheric lower-level circulation prevailing over the Comorin Sea region is the primary cause of the current weather changes. Furthermore, a low-pressure trough extends from the Comorin Sea all the way to Southwest Madhya Pradesh. Consequently, moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected to create a pleasant environment for people who have been enduring the heat for a prolonged period.

Past 24-hour rainfall highlights

In the 24-hour period ending yesterday morning, a maximum rainfall of 14 centimeters was recorded in Kulithalai, Karur district. Another location within Kulithalai recorded 10 centimeters. Rainfall of 9 centimeters was recorded in R.S. Mangalam, Ramanathapuram. In Chennai, 1 centimeter of rain fell in Mugalivakkam, Raja Annamalaipuram, and Saidapet, providing relief from the heat.
