In Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, an unusual theft occurred where a thief not only stole but also expressed his intention to return the money with interest. In a letter addressed to the shopkeeper, he blamed his friends for his circumstances.
Caught While Returning the Stolen Item
The thief, who had taken a rotary tiller from the shop, returned it after realizing it was of no use. Accompanied by an accomplice, he attempted to return the stolen item, but local villagers apprehended them.
A Guarantee of 'Honesty' to the Shopkeeper
This incident took place in the Mahmudabad area. The accused, identified as Suyash Patel, had taken a rotary tiller, mistaking it for a different tool. After the theft, he left a letter apologizing for his actions, citing financial difficulties and peer pressure as reasons for his crime.
Contents of the Letter
In his letter, the thief wrote, 'Jai Shri Ram, I am taking your equipment, which I value at ₹90,000. With 10% interest over three years, the total amount will be ₹1,17,000, which you will receive within three years. I assure you this act was due to my difficult circumstances, influenced by some friends who have tried to ruin me. Please believe me. Thank you.'
Returning the Stolen Goods
After realizing he could not use the machine, the thief loaded it onto a tractor and attempted to return it to the shop late at night. The shopkeeper was alerted and, with the help of villagers, managed to catch both the thief and his accomplice, recovering the stolen machine and tractor.
Police Action
The police were notified of the incident, leading to the detention of both suspects for questioning. Authorities confirmed that the accused are residents of Labraha village, and an investigation is underway to determine further legal actions based on the complaint.
