The political atmosphere is heated regarding the formation of a new government in Tamil Nadu. On the question of supporting TVK, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader AM Shahjahan said that we have not supported anyone.

I did not give any letter to anyone. This is just a rumour. We are continuing the alliance under the leadership of DMK. He said that no question of supporting TVK arises. We are continuing the alliance with DMK.

Meanwhile, IUML Tamil Nadu President Kader Mohideen has said that the party will remain a part of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance and will not support TVK.

TVK was not supported

IUML has issued a clarification saying that it has not extended its support to TVK. AM Shahjahan Papanasam and SSP Syed Badi have been elected from Vaniyambadi constituencies on IUML ticket. Let us tell you that TVK President Chandrashekhar Joseph Vijay, who emerged as the largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhawan on Friday after getting support from the Left parties.

Only two parties still have support

Actually, TVK Chief Vijay was to take oath as Chief Minister at 11 am today. But the letters of support from the two parties have not yet reached him. VCK has said that it will announce its decision on Saturday (today). At the same time, IUML has made it clear that they are with DMK and not with Vijay.

Letter of support from 116 MLAs

Amidst all this, the Congress MLAs of the state reached Bengaluru late in the night. According to sources, Vijay has so far submitted letters of support from 116 MLAs to the Governor. In this, TVK has 107 MLAs, Congress has 5 and CPI-CPM has 4. But to form the government, support of 118 MLAs is required. Vijay currently has 116 i.e. 2 MLAs are still less. Let us tell you that VCK and IUML have 2-2 MLAs. If both support Vijay then Vijay will have 120 MLAs.

TVK won 108 seats in the assembly elections

Vijay-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has got 108 seats in the 234-member assembly, which is less than the required number of 118 members for majority. Within hours of the results coming, Congress, which contested the elections with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), had announced its support to Vijay. Five members of the party have been elected in the House.

Vijay had approached DMK's allies Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) in efforts to form the government. All three parties have two MLAs each in the House. In this, CPI and CPI(M) have announced their support to Vijay while VCK said that it will take a decision on Saturday.
