A detailed charge sheet was filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Jammu on Friday in the high-profile case of attempt to murder National Conference (NC) President and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Dr Farooq Abdullah. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the police has taken this important step while completing its investigation in this sensitive case. In this charge sheet, many important revelations have been made about the deep conspiracy of the attack and the accused, which are the result of intensive research by the investigation team.

In fact, according to the charge sheet and the information provided by the police, this horrific incident took place on March 11, 2026. Dr. Farooq Abdullah had arrived that day to attend a marriage ceremony at the Royal Park Banquet Hall in Greater Kailash, Jammu. This incident happened when the former Chief Minister was returning after completing the function. At around 10:10 pm, when he was coming out of the hall, a person already present there tried to attack him fatally. 63-year-old accused Kamal Singh Jamwal took out his revolver and tried to shoot at the former Chief Minister from very close range.

The accused was immediately caught

Accused Kamal Singh Jamwal is a resident of Purani Mandi and his father’s name is Ajit Singh Jamwal. In this serious incident, the policemen deployed for the security of Dr. Farooq Abdullah took quick and bold action and immediately caught the accused. Due to the promptness and promptness of the policemen, a major untoward and potentially fatal incident was averted, due to which the former Chief Minister remained safe and there was no damage of any kind.

SIT was formed

In view of the seriousness of this major breach in the security of the former Chief Minister and the deadly attack, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed for a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter. Jammu Zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bhim Sen Tuti had given instructions for the formation of this important 7-member team on March 14. This team was led under the supervision of DIG, Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range. The main objective of the SIT was to conduct a detailed investigation into the deep conspiracy behind the attack, all its aspects and the foiled assassination attempt, so that the truth could emerge.

Soon after this serious incident, a case was registered against accused Kamal Singh Jamwal under strict legal sections at Police Station Gangyal, Jammu. The police registered a case under FIR number 29/2026 under Section 109 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) (Abetment of offence) and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act (Possessing and using weapons without a license) and started their detailed investigation. After thorough research in this case, all the evidence and facts have been collected and now the charge sheet has been duly presented before the court.
