Daredevil Born Again Season 2: Why Krysten Ritter’s Return As Jessica Jones Was A Letdown

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 ended with a whimper, not a bang. While it heralded the return of two Netflix-era characters, Jessica Jones and Mike Colter, it didn't give their characters much to do.
The return of Krysten Ritter's Jessica was so hyped up by the makers and yet the actual execution in the series felt wasted. Midway through the series, leaked photos from also showed a different reunion with Luke Cage and Danny Rand joining the show. Are the makers setting fans up for another disappointment?
Brief return of Jessica Jones
While Ritter's comeback to the Daredevil universe was teased since last year, on the show, Jessica Jones really didn't have much to do this season. She assists Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox), on a few assignments but she largely takes the back seat and stays out of the discourse. The show reveals that Jessica is now a mother with a little girl named Danielle. She is very protective of her daughter and will not suffer fools gladly.
In the at the New York City courthouse, an angry mob takes on corrupt Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Jessica joins Matt, who has been unmasked as Daredevil, in the fight. However, the action sequences feel a bit too muted, especially since Fisk's Kingpin was allowed to walk away into the shadow. Fans kept something major to happen, and when it didn't, they ended up disappointed. Eventually, Ritter was only part of three episodes out of eight in Season 2.
Daredevil Born Again showrunner explains
Showrunner Dario Scardapane explained why viewers saw less of Ritter and her character and chalked it up to busy scheduling. In an interview with Variety, the filmmaker revealed that all the actors became big stars after their respective Netflix shows. "So scheduling Mike, Krysten, Jon and others is like herding cats," he added. That's why Jessica and Luke only have one scene together in Season 2.
Jessica Jones and Luke Cage reunite
Speaking of that family reunion, Jessica, Luke and their daughter Danielle were finally back together again at the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. But how long will that last? According to Luke, he's done with his overseas clandestine assignments and indeed, Mr. Charles (Matthew Lillard) now has Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) alongside him as he flies out of the country. Essentially, what Season 2 did, in a long-winded manner, was set Season 3 up.
The big clash between Daredevil and Fisk also ended in an anti-climatic manner. For plenty of fans, the long-awaited battle between two rivals came to a stalemate. Next, The Punisher special, releasing next week, will likely shed more light on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) is returning in the film. For Daredevil fans, they have to wait another year to find out if Season 2 actually meant something.
