Boney Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor can rest easy after the Madras High Court rejected the claims related to a 1988 property purchased by the late actress . The Madras High Court ruled that the case was filed several decades after the sale of the land and lacked legal merit. The Kapoor family has received major relief in the legal battle after the case was dismissed and an earlier order passed by a Chengalpattu court was also overturned. According to a report in Bar and Bench, the Madras High Court turned down the claims of the 2.70-acre land in Sholinganallur. Not only was the civil suit dismissed but the High Court overturned an earlier order passed by a Chengalpattu court. The case titled Boney Kapoor vs C Sivakami followed the plaintiffs' claim that they were the alleged legal heirs of late MC Chandrasekaran. The plaintiffs, who were named as MC Sivakami, MC Natarajan and Chandrabhanu, also questioned the validity of the 1988 sale deeds. They further alleged the sellers did not have lawful ownership of the property when it was sold to Sridevi, her mother, and sister.

According to the plaintiffs, the land originally belonged to MC Sambanda Mudaliar and they were alerted to the alleged irregularities in 2023 after a land deed was issued for the Kapoors - Boney, Janhvi and Khushi.

The Kapoors challenged the plaintiffs' suit in the High Court under Order VII Rule 11 of the Code of Civil Procedure. Their counsel argued that Chandrasekaran, who died in 1995, had not disputed the sales deeds when he was alive and the plaintiffs were not recognised as his Class I legal heirs. The plaintiffs filed their suit in 2025.

The High Court also pointed out that the transaction occurred 40 years after the sale of the land, thus exceeding the time limit for the current case. There were inconsistencies in the plaintiffs’ claims on the matter of legal heirship, which led to the civil suit's dismissal. The court also noted that the certificate that they presented had already been cancelled. It was their ruling that after Sridevi's death in February 2018, the property rightfully went to her family, husband   and daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. They called the suit a misuse of a legal process as they rejected it.
