Legendary cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni may have retired from international cricket years ago, but his influence and earning power continue to remain stronger than ever. Known globally for his calm leadership style and iconic helicopter shot, the former Indian captain is now making headlines for a completely different reason — his massive income tax contribution.

According to recent reports, Dhoni has emerged as the highest individual taxpayer in the Bihar-Jharkhand region, once again proving why he is still considered one of India’s biggest sporting icons even beyond the cricket field.

Dhoni Reportedly Paid More Than ₹50 Crore in Advance Tax

Reports suggest that Mahendra Singh Dhoni deposited more than ₹50 crore as advance income tax during the previous financial year. Although the Income Tax Department has not officially disclosed the exact figure, senior officials have reportedly confirmed that Dhoni ranked number one among individual taxpayers in Bihar and Jharkhand.

The confirmation was reportedly shared by Dr. D. Sudhakar Rao, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for the Bihar-Jharkhand region.

Dhoni’s massive earnings are believed to come from multiple income streams, including business ventures, brand endorsements, investments, and his continued association with the Indian Premier League.

Even after stepping away from international cricket, Dhoni remains one of the most commercially successful athletes in India.

Business Ventures and Brand Value Continue Driving Income

Experts say Dhoni’s financial success is no longer dependent only on cricket salaries. Over the years, he has built a diversified income portfolio that includes investments in startups, sports ventures, fitness businesses, agriculture-related projects, and endorsement partnerships with major brands.

His continued popularity among fans and advertisers keeps him among the highest-paid former cricketers in the country.

Apart from playing for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, Dhoni is also associated with several commercial ventures and promotional campaigns, contributing significantly to his annual earnings.

Bihar and Jharkhand Record ₹20,000 Crore Tax Collection

The Income Tax Department also reported strong tax collection growth from Bihar and Jharkhand during the financial year 2025–26.

According to officials, total tax collection from the two states reached approximately ₹20,000 crore.

Out of this, Jharkhand reportedly contributed nearly ₹12,000 crore, making it the larger contributor between the two states.

Authorities further stated that nearly 70% of the total tax collection came through TDS, or Tax Deducted at Source.

Major Corporate Taxpayers Also Contributed Heavily

Along with individual taxpayers like Dhoni, several major public sector companies also played a key role in tax collection from the region.

Some of the largest contributors reportedly included:

  • Central Coalfields Limited (CCL)
  • Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL)
  • CMPDI

Officials noted that despite mining operations being affected by heavy rainfall in some areas, overall tax collection remained strong and satisfactory.

Huge Gap Between PAN Holders and ITR Filers

The Income Tax Department also revealed an important statistic regarding tax compliance in Bihar and Jharkhand.

According to officials, the two states together currently have nearly 5.5 crore PAN card holders. However, only around 40 lakh individuals are filing income tax returns regularly.

Tax authorities now plan to increase awareness and improve compliance through outreach programs and taxpayer education initiatives.

Dhoni Continues to Inspire Beyond Cricket

Financial experts say Dhoni’s position as the top taxpayer reflects not only his commercial success but also the growing financial discipline and formalization among high-income individuals in India.

For fans, the story further strengthens Dhoni’s image as a disciplined and responsible public figure who continues contributing significantly to the economy even after achieving legendary status in cricket.

Whether on the cricket field or in financial matters, Dhoni’s consistency continues to attract admiration across the country.

From lifting World Cups to becoming one of India’s biggest taxpayers, the former captain has once again shown why he remains one of the most respected personalities in Indian sports and business.
