Manchester United are poised to be busy in the transfer market once more this summer as they prepare to compete on multiple fronts next season. They secured Champions League qualification with a 3-2 victory over Liverpool at the weekend, marking their imminent return to European competition after a year-long absence.
United have flourished since Michael Carrick assumed control on a temporary basis. Under the former club captain, they have triumphed in 10 out of 14 matches and risen to third in the Premier League table. With only three games remaining this season, the club's hierarchy will start to shift their attention to the summer transfer window. There are several rumours circulating and anticipation continues to mount around a revamped United squad next year.
Here's a look at how their dream transfer window could play out...
£113m double deal
United's primary focus this summer is overhauling their midfield, with Casemiro bringing his association with the club to a close after four years.
The Brazilian confirmed his exit from Old Trafford earlier this year, announcing he would depart at the end of the 2025/26 season.
With one key figure heading for the door, further stars could also seek a move away. Manuel Ugarte has been linked with a switch to AC Milan, potentially removing another squad member from the wage bill.
United have been linked with a number of midfield targets, amongst them Real Madrid playmaker Aurelien Tchouameni.
He is valued at upwards of £70million by the La Liga giants, who will only sanction his departure if they secure one of their own midfield targets. Landing him would be regarded as a genuine coup as United make their return to the Champions League.
Atalanta star Ederson has also been mentioned, with reports indicating the 26-year-old carries a price tag of around £43m. Signing both players would, however, require a combined outlay of approximately £113m.
Given that midfield is the area demanding the most urgent attention this summer, it would come as little surprise to see United invest most heavily there to complement the talents of Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes.
Premier League targets
While United will cast a keen eye across the continent, they are not opposed to recruiting proven Premier League talent - as shown last summer.
Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly is one name on the club's radar as a long-term successor to Luke Shaw. He could set United back approximately £50m, with Arsenal said to be pricing both Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri at a combined £100million.
The 19-year-old experienced a breakthrough season last term but has subsequently struggled to secure regular first-team football due to the strong performances of Piero Hincapie.
He might view a move to United as a chance for a new beginning, following in the footsteps of Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi-Martin in making the switch to Old Trafford.
Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali has also been mentioned as another midfielder whom United are pursuing.
Reports indicate that the Italian is eager to stay in England should he leave St James' Park this summer, despite attention from Real Madrid.
It has been suggested that Newcastle have placed a £100million price tag on him, but it is thought a reduced sum could be agreed.
Rashford replacement arrives
Marcus Rashford looks set to depart United this summer after an impressive loan spell at Barcelona this campaign. The 28-year-old has registered 27 goal contributions across 46 outings for the La Liga club and has attracted interest from two European heavyweights.
Barca are looking to negotiate another loan arrangement or a reduced transfer fee, while Arsenal and Bayern Munich are reportedly "monitoring the situation" concerning the England international.
With Rashford's reported £315,000-a-week salary due to be removed from the wage bill, United could make a swift move for the winger's successor.
Rafael Leao has emerged as a player they are reportedly keen to pursue, with a potential deal involving Ugarte plus cash being mooted.
AC Milan are said to value the 26-year-old at approximately £52m, with Italian outlet Calciomercato suggesting the winger is not "untouchable" this summer.
