Bareilly–Haldwani Greenfield Expressway is being planned as a new infrastructure corridor aimed at improving road connectivity between the Rohilkhand region of Uttar Pradesh and the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. According to project details, the proposed expressway will span approximately 100 kilometres and is designed as a four-lane access-controlled highway developed on a fresh alignment rather than upgrading existing roads. The project is being taken forward by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The corridor is expected to begin in the Bareilly region and extend towards Haldwani, serving as a key link for both passenger and freight movement. It is also planned to integrate with major highways in Uttar Pradesh, enhancing regional connectivity and creating smoother travel routes towards Uttarakhand’s hill destinations such as Nainital and surrounding areas.

As per preliminary planning information, the expressway is expected to connect with existing highway networks near Bareilly, including routes leading towards Moradabad, while also linking further with proposed and upcoming expressway corridors in the broader Uttar Pradesh network. This integration is expected to reduce travel time and congestion on existing roads that currently experience heavy seasonal traffic, especially during tourist periods.

The project is also being viewed as part of a broader effort to improve north Indian highway infrastructure, where greenfield expressways are increasingly being used to bypass congested urban stretches and create high-speed travel corridors. Once operational, the Bareilly–Haldwani route is expected to support not only tourism but also regional trade, logistics, and inter-state movement of goods.

While detailed timelines for construction and completion have not been officially finalised, early-stage activities such as alignment marking and planning are understood to be underway. The project’s long-term objective is to provide a more efficient alternative to the existing road network, which often faces bottlenecks due to increasing traffic demand between Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Overall, the proposed expressway reflects a continued push toward expanding high-speed road infrastructure in the region, with the aim of improving connectivity, reducing travel time, and supporting economic activity across connected districts.
