Dhoni becomes the biggest taxpayer of Bihar-Jharkhand

MS Dhoni Income Tax: The charm of former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has not diminished even after bidding farewell from the playing field. 'Thala', who broke big records with the bat, has now achieved a big position in the financial world too. According to the latest data, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has become the highest tax paying individual taxpayer in the state of Bihar and Jharkhand.

Tax of more than 50 crores

Even after saying goodbye to international cricket, Dhoni is still active in brand endorsements, IPL and many other business ventures. This is the reason why their income graph is continuously going upwards. According to reports, he has deposited advance tax of more than Rs 50 crore in the last financial year. Although the Income Tax Department does not publicly disclose the exact tax amount of any person, but Dr. D. Sudhakar Rao, Chief Income Tax Commissioner of Bihar-Jharkhand region, has confirmed that Dhoni has emerged as the biggest taxpayer in the individual category.

Record tax collection of Bihar-Jharkhand

Along with Dhoni's personal tax achievement, the overall tax collection of Bihar and Jharkhand has also seen a historic jump. The Income Tax Department has collected a record tax of Rs 20,000 crore from these two states during the financial year 2025-26. Jharkhand's performance in this figure was excellent, making a major contribution of Rs 12,000 crore to the total collection. The important thing is that about 70 percent of this huge amount coming into the government treasury has been deposited directly through 'Tax Deduction at Source' i.e. TDS. This figure reflects transparent financial transactions and compliance.

dominance of government companies

Not only at the individual level, but big government companies of the corporate world have also played an important role in this strong tax collection. Big companies like Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and CMPDI have contributed heavily to the government exchequer. According to officials, despite the interruption in mining operations due to heavy rains, the tax collection received from these corporates was quite satisfactory.

Only so many people are filing income tax returns.

According to statistics, a total of 5.5 crore people in Bihar and Jharkhand have PAN card. But, the surprising thing is that only 40 lakh of these people file their Income Tax Return (ITR). This huge gap between PAN card holders and return filers is a big challenge for the economy. This is why the Income Tax Department is now preparing to start a special 'outreach program' to make people aware and increase the number of people filing returns.
