One day a businessman reached the royal court. He said to the king,
“Your Majesty, today I have brought such an item for you, which you will be surprised to see.”
The king became curious and said,
“Tell me quickly, what have you brought?”
The merchant took out three beautiful idols from his bag. All three were exactly alike in appearance. He said,
"Maharaja, these three idols have different prices. The price of the first idol is one lakh gold coins, the price of the second one is one thousand gold coins and the price of the third one is only one gold coin."
The king was shocked to hear this. He looked at all three idols carefully, but he could not see any difference between them. The courtiers also investigated, but no one could understand the mystery.
Then the king called his wisest minister and said,
“Find out the reason for the different prices of these idols.”
The minister looked at the idols carefully and asked for a thin stick from a servant.
First of all he inserted a needle into the ear of the first idol. Salai went inside and stopped after reaching the heart. The minister said,
“This statue symbolizes those people who, after hearing something, keep it in their mind, understand it and speak only when the right time comes. Such people are very valuable.”
Then he inserted a needle into the ear of the second idol. The needle went straight out of the other ear.
The minister said,
“This idol is like those people who hear things but do not pay attention to them. Everything is the same for them.”
At last he inserted a needle into the ear of the third idol. The string came out of his mouth.
The minister explained,
"This statue is a symbol of those people who immediately start telling others on hearing anything. They spread rumors without knowing the truth, hence their importance is the least."
The king was very happy with the intelligence of his minister. He bought the first idol and said that he would always keep people who act wisely.
Kahani's life management
We should always speak thoughtfully. Believing in every thing heard and conveying it to others can be harmful. Wise is the one who first knows the truth and then takes the right decision.
