Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) face each other today (6 May) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. PBKS continues to top the table with 13 points from 9 matches, while SRH has 12 points and is at the third position. PBKS, captained by Shreyas Iyer, has faced two consecutive defeats. SRH is also coming after losing its last match. In such a situation, both the teams are desperate to get back on the winning track, for which they will expect good performance from their openers again. Both these teams are running largely on the strength of their openers.
For SRH, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head have scored 543 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 208.05, while PBKS’s Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh are scoring runs at a strike rate of 242.5. Both these pairs, who are adept at giving explosive starts, did not play well in the previous matches of their respective teams, so they had to face defeat.
Will the new plan of SRH and PBKS be seen in Uppal?
PBKS and SRH are very close to the playoffs. It is almost certain that she will finish in the top-4 but at the end of the tournament she would like her middle order to also take the lead. SRH’s problems are less in this matter, because Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen are continuously scoring runs. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Salil Arora and Aniket Verma have also made useful contributions but now they need to be consistent in their performance.
On the other hand, the middle order of PBKS has been failing for many matches. Captain Shreyas Iyer has not been able to do anything special in the last two matches after a good start to the season. Same is the case with Cooper Connolly. Despite the score being 47/5 in the last match, Suryansh Shedge’s inning of 57 runs in 29 balls has given PBKS confidence that investment can be made in him. Nehal Vadhera is still going to playoff. PBKS can bring back Shashank Singh in his place. If the team wants to remain in the top-2 till the end of the league stage, then its middle order will have to be fired, otherwise the situation of Gujarat Titans may be similar to that of PBKS last season.
Probable playing XI of both the teams:
Sunrisers Hyderabad – Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Aniket Verma, Salil Arora, Pat Cummins (c), Harshal Patel, Ishan Malinga, Shivang Kumar, Saqib Hussain.
