Now a new and shocking CCTV footage has emerged in the case of the murder of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant (PA) of Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Subhendu Adhikari. This video has made it clear with how much planning the attackers were chasing Chandranath. The CCTV footage is of 10.08 pm on Wednesday night, i.e. just a few minutes before the incident.

It can be seen in the footage that the white colored Scorpio of Chandranath Rath is passing through the road. Exactly two seconds later, a bike and a scooter are seen rapidly chasing the car. Police believe that the people riding on these two-wheelers are the suspected attackers, who carried out this bloody game just a few steps away.

‘Pin point’ murder just 150 meters away from home

It is being told that when Chandranath Rath was moving towards his Orchid Society flat in Madhyamgram, his car was targeted just 150 meters from his house. Although TMC has termed these allegations as baseless, the state government has now formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate. It is being told that this SIT will be headed by an IG level officer, so that the case can be investigated impartially and quickly.

Mother’s painful cry and hope for justice

While on one hand the political rhetoric is intense, on the other hand there is mourning in the family of Chandranath Rath. A statement of his mother is much discussed on social media. The mother who lost her son said that she does not want death penalty for the killers, but life imprisonment. “I want them to regret their mistake while behind bars and feel the pain they have caused us every day,” she said.

Police are now scanning the number plates of the bike and scooter so that the attackers can be identified. The answers to the questions floating in the air of Bengal after this murder now depend on the investigation of the SIT.
