Ishank Singh of Jharkhand created history by crossing the Palk Strait!

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday met seven-year-old child swimmer Ishank Singh from Ranchi and honored him for his historic achievement. Ishank has made a world record by crossing the challenging Palk Strait located between India and Sri Lanka.

In a special program organized at the Chief Minister’s Residential Office, CM Hemant Soren presented a check of Rs 5 lakh, a corset, and a memento to Ishank. During this, the Chief Minister also honored Ishank’s parents and his coach.

Praising Ishank, he said that seven-year-old Ishank has crossed the 29 kilometer long Palk Strait by swimming continuously for 9 hours 50 minutes. This is a moment of pride not only for Jharkhand but for the entire country. His success will become a source of inspiration for other emerging players of the state.

Emphasizing on the sports policy of the state, CM Soren said that the Jharkhand government is continuously making efforts to hone sports talents. He said that our government has made an effective sports policy, under which modern facilities, better training and necessary resources are being provided to the players. The state government will provide every possible help to talented children like Ishank to get international recognition.

He directed the officials of the Sports Department to prepare a concrete action plan for expanding swimming training facilities in the state so that more ‘Ishanks’ can be produced in future. Ishank Singh showed his ability to the world by crossing this difficult sea strait on 30 April. Since this achievement, he has been receiving praise from various national and international organizations.

On this occasion, many senior officials including State Sports Minister Sudivya Kumar, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Sports Secretary Mukesh Kumar, Sports Director Asif Ikram and Shailendra Tiwari of Jharkhand Swimming Association were present.
