IPL 2026: LSG’s journey will end after losing to RCB, will have to do these things to win
Samira Vishwas | May 8, 2026 3:24 AM CST

The 50th match of IPL 2026 will be played between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). This match is to be played on 7th May at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. This match is a do or die situation for LSG. The mathematics is simple, if Lucknow loses today then it is almost certain that they will be out of the playoff race. Right now LSG can reach maximum 14 points by winning all their remaining matches, whereas RCB will reach the figure of 14 points with a win today.

So far in the tournament, the graphs of both the teams have been completely opposite. While defending champion RCB has emerged as the most balanced and dangerous team this season, the Lucknow team has been struggling with unbalanced performance. Lucknow’s bowlers have proved lethal on their home ground but have also failed to defend a big score like 228 on away grounds. The team gave away 254 runs against Punjab Kings, which has shaken the confidence of the team.

LSG is lagging here

The biggest problem of Lucknow is the flop of its big batsmen. The batting unit consisting of explosive players like Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, captain Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran has looked completely ineffective this time. The surprising thing is that the strike rate of none of these four greats has crossed 150. On the other hand, despite Phil Salt’s injury, RCB’s batting is hitting sixes of the opponents on the strength of Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar.

Ekana Stadium pitch temperament

The pitch at Ekana Stadium has traditionally been favorable to bowlers. Here the average score of the first innings remains around 164 runs, which shows that it will not be easy for the batsmen to play shots freely. This match is to be held on the same pitch where in the last match, the score of Lucknow and Kolkata was tied at 155 runs. In such a situation, spinners can once again change the game, although fast bowlers are also expected to get extra bounce and pace here.

LSG will have to do these things to win

The path to victory for Lucknow passes through the wicket of Virat Kohli. The record of the team’s main weapons Mohammed Shami and Avesh Khan has been excellent against Kohli. Shami has sent Kohli to the pavilion 5 times and Avesh 4 times. If both these bowlers are successful in disposing of Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal quickly in the powerplay, then only Lucknow will be able to hold on in this match. Chasing runs on the slow pitch of Ikana is going to prove challenging for any team.
