Post mortem started in Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital

Kolkata. Senior party leaders reached the residence of Chandranath Rath, a close aide of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subhendu Adhikari, and said his family will decide about the last rites after the post-mortem is completed. A party source gave this information.

Chandranath Rath was shot dead in North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday night. A senior West Bengal Police official said the post-mortem began at Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital amid heavy deployment of Central Armed Police Forces. He said that the body will be handed over to the family after the completion of the process.

When asked about Rath’s cremation, a senior BJP leader said, the wishes of the family are paramount. Decisions regarding the last rites will be taken after consultation with the family of the deceased. He said that the party leadership is in constant touch with Rath’s family.

BJP workers gathered outside the hospital where Rath was taken after the shooting incident on Wednesday night and demanded immediate arrest of those involved in the murder.

A BJP worker said, we want such punishment for the culprits that an example will be set. Such attacks are condemnable in a democratic state. A police officer said that police deployment has been increased around the hospital and Rath’s residence to prevent any kind of violence.

According to preliminary information, around 10:30 pm on Wednesday night, near Doltala in Madhyamgram, the attackers riding a motorcycle chased Rath’s vehicle, forced him to stop and fled after the firing.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the vehicle carrying the chariot was first stopped by a small four-wheeler near Dohariya Junction, after which a motorcyclist came near the car and started firing from close range.
