GB News ground to a halt minutes into their afternoon show to issue a major Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor update from outside his home near Sandringham. On Thursday (May 7), the former prince was allegedly threatened by a man wearing a balaclava near his new home on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk while out walking his dogs. According to The Telegraph, the former Duke of York was approached at approximately 7.30pm on Wednesday night (May 6) near his Marsh Farm home following his eviction from Royal Lodge in Windsor at the start of the year.

Broadcaster Charlie Peters told viewers that the assailant had been sitting in his car approximately 50 yards away from the royal residence. When he spotted the dad-of-two, the alleged assailant got out of his vehicle and made his way towards him while shouting. It is understood that the incident occurred on public land in a lane near the Royal Park.

The former royal was accompanied by a member of his private security team during the outing with his four-legged friends. After spotting the alleged assailant, the security guard ushered Mr Mountbatten-Windsor towards his own car, which was parked nearby.

They then quickly entered the vehicle and drove the King's brother away from the suspect, who allegedly tried to run after him. Norfolk Police soon arrived at the scene, where they reportedly arrested a suspect and took him into custody for questioning.

It is understood that officers also searched the man's vehicle for any sign of a weapon. The presenter added that they had contacted Norfolk Police Constabulary for a further update. The Telegraph goes on to report that Andrew, who they say was shaken by the chilling incident, was asked to provide a statement in addition to his personal protection officer.

Although the King is personally funding Andrew's new home in Norfolk, it is understood that he has refused to shell out for his disgraced brother's private security after the late Queen withdrew his publicly funded personal protection team, which was provided by the Met Police, after he stepped back as a working royal in 2019.

A source told the outlet: "This shows why Andrew's security provisions need to be proportionate and properly balanced for an individual with a very high profile. Surely this demonstrates why his security should be reviewed."

When approached for a comment, Norfolk Police confirmed: "Officers were called to Wolferton shortly after 7.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 6 May 2026) following a report that a man was behaving in an intimidating manner in the village. Officers attended, and the man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon.

"He was taken to King's Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning and remains in custody," the statement concluded. It comes as Andrew remains under investigation after his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office on his 66th birthday back in February.

He was later released under investigation after 11 hours at a Norfolk police station. He has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. Meanwhile, his daughter, Princess Eugenie, has announced that she is expecting her third child with her husband, Jack Brooksbank. Buckingham Palace has been contacted for a comment.
